Rouben Mooroongapillay – Head of Chambers
Rouben Mooroongapillay was called to the Mauritian Bar in January 2010 after pursuing his legal education and training in England, at the University of Wolverhampton (LL.B Hons), the Inns of Court (Bar Vocational Course) and City Law School (Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies).
Following a brief spell as an immigration lawyer in London where he dealt with requests for asylum and related judicial review applications before judicial and administrative tribunals in England, he returned to Mauritius to do his pupillage (mandatory legal training) under the supervision of Mr Gavin Glover SC.
Since being called to the Mauritian Bar, Rouben Mooroongapillay has been engaged in private practice as a barrister-at-law and appeared before a number of judicial and administrative courts and tribunals in Mauritius. He has acquired extensive exposure doing defence work for criminal matters and has earned a staunch reputation for his commitment to safeguarding the constitutional rights of his clients when assisting in criminal investigations and subsequent or related court proceedings, in highly mediatized cases.
In addition to his thriving criminal practice, Rouben Mooroongapillay is also active in civil dispute resolution. His areas of practice include employment law, intellectual property, commercial claims and the civil aspects of white collar crimes (asset tracing, applications for protective measures and enforcement of foreign judgments/orders).
